What a Day for a Walk

I walked 20 miles for hunger today with the MDA(Mass. Dietetic Association) Team but more specifically with my wonderful sister Sarah!

I packed up trail mix for us to nibble on during the day this morning: pretzels, dried cranberries, raisins and almonds. Before I left for the walk I had a small cup of coffee with soy milk and a banana.

Then, Dave dropped me off at Sarah’s apartment downtown and we walked down to the Boston Common.

We walked across starting line at 8:20AM and started our 20 mile adventure.

the starting line

Our route took us through Boston, Brookline, Newton, Watertown, and Cambridge. I think this walk is a really nice way to see Boston and the surrounding towns. Today, was my 4th walk! walk route

Along the way Sarah and I sent pictures to our mom to keep her updated on our progressing including this one from mile 3  Winking smile

The Chestnut Hill Reservoir was mile 6- look at that blue water!

At Mile 10- we stopped for some band- aids for Sarah’s blisters Sad smile

And were SO excited to see Mile Marker 12 around 12:00pm – only 8 to go!!

Mile 16: near the Harvard Boathouses- look at that view Smile

Mile 18: Our feet were tired and we were ready to be DONE(note: Sarah’s face)- the wind of the Mass Ave. bridge did not help!

At Mile 19: Mark Wahlberg(Marky Mark) drove by in a Bentley! It got us jazzed to get ‘er done- so we ran to the finish line!

We did it!

Dave then surprised me with a ride home on Beacon St. and we took a quick trip to Whole Foods . I grabbed a small soy milk that really hit the spot!

And next was nachos at home with pulled pork from last night’s dinner and Cabot which REALLY hit the spot!

After a nice hot shower, an unscheduled nap (I must have been tired), and some work on the computer- I started dinner: Oat & Flax pizza. My half had roasted sweet potatoes and arugula pesto with parmesan cheese- while Dave’s had leftover pulled pork and Cabot cheddar.

In the end, I decided to have one piece of each over a bed of greens!

I’m off to bed –I’ve got an early morning at the gym tomorrow!

Nice job! I stumbled upon the Walk yesterday while out with Sadie — what a gorgeous day for the event! I covered about 20 miles over the course of the weekend but not all in one sweep, so I can imagine you were tired!

Wait. You saw Marky Mark? I’ve talked to you 3 times since you finished and not ONCE did you mention this. Oh and good job walking 20 miles ;)

Nice work, Meg! I got caught in the Walk for Hunger “traffic” yesterday morning while trying to drive through the city…I should have looked for you! :)
