All diseases begins in the gut- Hippocrates
At approximately 8:00am this morning I walked into the Norwood Sheraton to find hundreds upon hundreds of people like me- gluten free!
I started at the registration table and grabbed my badge and bag from the wonderful volunteers from Healthy Villi.
Melinda Dennis of the BIDMC Celiac Center had shown me the menu for breakfast and lunch prior -so I was excited to get over to the line with my fellow conference go-ers to grab some grub!
I grabbed an egg sandwich on a Udi’s roll & a pumpkin muffin. I was carb-loading for a day of listening apparently ![]()
The morning sessions included Dr. Peter Green & Dr. Allesio Fasano who spoke on new research in the world of celiac disease and non- celiac gluten sensitivity(NCGS).
Some take-away messages included:
- Diagnosis Rate of Celiac Disease is on the rise & has doubled every 15 years since the 70s.
- NCGS is still unknown and researchers don’t know why more and more cases are appearing.
- Mortality Rate increases with NCGS and Celiac Disease usually in the form of lymphoma!!!
During our break and then right before lunch I walked around the Gluten Free Mall. I met some wonderful people & companies I wanted to share with you all…
Christina & Sandy from Something Sweet with Wheat with their delicious pumpkin whoopie pies, macaroons and more!
The ladies from Bakery on Main who had a new bar-Truebars! I am excited to try one out this week!
Ari from Mini Pops which is popped sorghum grain! Cool right!?!
On the left is the unpopped sorghum grain while on the right is the POPPED version- crazy!?! It tastes great and has 3grams of fiber per serving!
Jules from Jules Gluten free with her gf flour and great tasting treats!
Lauren from Unlawfully Good with her unbelievable pumpkin cupcakes- yummy!
Rudi’s bakery with their breads made into small peanut butter honey sandwiches!
JD’s pizza & doughnut holes!
BiAglut pasta from Pittsburgh- I chatted with their specialists for awhile about gluten free places in Pittsburgh & Ligonier ![]()
The wonderful team from Rosa’s Food Shoppe with Guy’s bbq sauce salad!
Udi’s had their new chia-millet bread to try- it was really good! A tweet from Udi’s this week promised me the product on the shelves by November in Boston!
Namaste Foods from Idaho
Phew… then it was off to one more session and lunch with the ladies from BIDMC!
