Apple Picking in NE

by Meg on September 24, 2012

I heart apples!

Yesterday was a picture perfect day to go apple picking in New England.

We decided to try out Shelburne Farms in Stow for our apple picking pleasure. They had a good selection of Cortlands, McIntosh, Macoun, and Empire for us to pick and were only about 20 miles from the house.

It was jam packed near the parking lot and kid zones (farm animals and hay mounds) but the in orchards it was nice and peaceful. Dave, Brita, and I felt like we were the only ones there at some points.

While these two  were super excited about their first apples on the outside of the tree-

I went for the hidden gems way underneath.

In about an hour our bag was packed to the brim and Dave said, “it was time to go get cider donuts!”

Alas, the wait for donuts was over an hour so we decided to move on to lunch in Concord and donuts at Wilson Farm.

We decided on Main Street Market & Café for lunch. I was decided on which salad I was going to have when the attendant at the counter said they offer both gluten free bread for sandwiches and gluten free flatbread for their pizzas! Woo-hoo!

I decided on their marguerite pizza for lunch, while Dave had the Harvest sandwich and Brita had the turkey bacon club!

My gf pizza was delicious! I decided to save half for lunch another time this week Smile

While Dave and Brita gobbled theirs right up! Sorry about all the thumb in these pictures!

After fueling up at Main Street we were off to Wilson Farm to grab cider donuts for Dave and Brita. I forgot to take a picture of them but I can tell you they were happily gobbled up by many people coming in and out of our house all night long Winking smile
